On August 20, 1955, BDN broadcast “Swingtime” for the last time – a sad day for many BDN listeners.
On this day, a man sat in front of his tape recorder and recorded this last broadcast, in order to preserve it for posterity and to give us the opportunity
to play it back on the BDN homepage.
Ernest Cech was born in Vienna on April 16, 1930, and attended the “TGM” (a polytechnical college) in Vienna where he studied radio and television engineering and graduated in 1951.
As his final project he constructed a tape recorder which he used to record many BDN broadcasts.
As a young engineer, he headed the final inspection at the radio and television factory “MINERVA” for seven years. Of course, BDN served as a test station for quality assurance, and most of the radios that left the factory were tuned to BDN’s MW frequency.
BDN would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Cech for the audio documents he made available and, of course, to commemorate the last program “Swingtime”.
